About the role#
The Human Resources Student Assistant provides clerical and technical support to the ASI Human Resources staff. You will assist with day-to-day HR functions, including data entry into HRIS databases, payroll audits, and record maintenance. This position requires a commitment to student development and leadership while working under the supervision of the Coordinator of Human Resources Operations.
What you'll do#
- Review paperwork for accuracy and process personnel actions.
- Maintain student personnel files and track leaves of absence.
- Assist customers by phone and in person with HR-related questions.
- Handle confidential information according to established policies.
- Process financial paperwork and Payment Request Forms.
- Audit payroll records for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct monthly Social Security Number verifications.
- Perform general office tasks like filing, copying, and mailing.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly statistics.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Cal Poly with at least 6 units (4 units for graduate students).
- Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Skill in managing confidential personnel matters with judgment and discretion.
- Capacity to work independently or cooperatively with others.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure.

- Location: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $16.90 per hour.
- Requirements: This position requires availability during the summer term and a commitment to at least two consecutive terms of work. A background check is required for employment.
