About the role#
As a Student Fitness Instructor, you will lead various group exercise and instructional classes for the Recreational Sports Programs team. You will report to the Assistant Coordinator of Fitness Programs and help support the university learning objectives by fostering an environment of respect, ethics, and sustainability.
What you'll do#
- Teach classes within the Group Exercise and Instructional Class Program.
- Create individual class lesson plans and lead instructional sessions.
- Supervise class participants to ensure a safe and effective environment.
- Maintain the instructional area and ensure all departmental policies are enforced.
- Provide quality customer service to staff and participants.
- Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
- Act as a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
- Maintain prompt hours and follow established absence procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Cal Poly student with at least 6 units (4 units for graduate students).
- Professional instructor certification or equivalent prior training.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, muscular function, and exercise program implementation.
- Ability to work with diverse populations, including those with special needs.
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Experience in Indoor Cycling, Yoga, or Dance is preferred.
- Ability to learn new class formats and stay current with industry trends.
Location & details#
- Location: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $18.00 to $32.00 per hour for instruction time, and $16.90 per hour for training and meetings.
- Schedule: May require early morning, late night, weekend, and holiday availability.
- Employment Type: Part-time, at-will.
