About the role#
As a Welding Engineer Intern at BWXT, you will support our welding engineering team while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. You will work on projects that enhance operational efficiency and learn the daily functions of shop floor and contract welding engineering.
What you'll do#
- Learn and carry out basic shop floor and contract welding engineering duties.
- Lead 5S and process improvement projects for specific shop operations.
- Assist with the development and interpretation of welding procedures.
- Perform audits of welding operations and systems.
- Support the troubleshooting of welding equipment and operations using your knowledge of welding processes.
- Create job-specific aids, weld instructions, and checklists.
- Collect and analyze data for weld metrics to support operational improvements.
- Ensure all welding operations and processes meet customer specifications and follow good work practices.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in a Welding Engineering program with at least sophomore status.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong technical problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of arc welding processes including GTAW, SMAW, SAW, and GMAW.
- ABET accreditation is preferred.
- Prior internship experience or experience in heavy manufacturing is preferred.
- Knowledge of robotics or automated processes is preferred.
Location & details#
- This position is located on-site in Mt Vernon, Indiana.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- Compensation ranges from $23.83 to $29.81 per hour based on local market factors and business considerations.
- A housing stipend is available for interns living more than 50 miles from the work site.
