Student Project Coordinator

About the role#

Bird Construction is seeking a Student Project Coordinator for a Fall 2026 internship in Ottawa, Ontario. This full-time, paid position provides students with a business-relevant project, allowing for independent management of specific responsibilities under the guidance of a supervisor and technical mentor. The role is designed to help students identify their strengths within a supportive construction environment.

What you'll do#

• Coordinate drawings and manage work for specific scopes and trades.
• Participate in project meetings and monitor sub-trade work.
• Conduct deficiency walks and maintain deficiency logs.
• Create and maintain graphical scheduling while monitoring manpower productivity.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and verify site conditions against project drawings.
• Update field drawings, produce as-built drawings, and coordinate progress photos.
• Set up and maintain project record-keeping systems.
• Layout site lines and grades using a total station.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Industrial Engineering program.
• Completion of at least one semester of education following the internship.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead and operate effectively in environments with frequent changes.
• Strong ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships.
• A sense of urgency and a commitment to achieving project goals.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude.
• A valid work permit or residency status allowing employment in Canada.
