About the role#
As a Firmware Engineering Intern, you will work on the layer where software meets hardware. You will contribute to the low-level code running on batteries and inverters, ensuring the fleet remains stable and grid-ready. This role involves working on systems that make millisecond-level decisions to protect hardware and maintain power flow for real homes.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and test firmware in C/C++ for bare-metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux systems.
- Develop and debug device drivers, communication interfaces, and low-level system behavior by reading schematics and interpreting datasheets.
- Build fleet-critical components, including high-rate telemetry, automated fault detection, and grid-balancing control loops.
- Write reliable, deterministic, and safe code while working under real-world physical constraints.
- Collaborate with hardware, power electronics, and software engineers to solve integration challenges.
What you'll need#
- Solid understanding of C/C++, embedded systems concepts, and basic computer architecture.
- Practical experience from coursework, side projects, or prior internships involving microcontrollers, RTOS, sensor integration, robotics, or power electronics.
- Interest in hardware behavior, including timing diagrams, interrupts, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Clear communication skills and a self-directed, curious approach to problem-solving.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
