As a Hardware Engineering Intern, you will participate in the full product development lifecycle of residential energy systems, including batteries, power inverters, and interconnection devices. You will work alongside experienced engineers on both R&D and production efforts, gaining hands-on experience with hardware that is designed to be deployed to households.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with senior engineers to design, simulate, build, and test electrical and mechanical systems.
- Participate in hands-on prototyping, debugging, and iterative testing of hardware across all development stages.
- Support the transition of products from initial breadboard concepts to high-volume manufacturing.
- Diagnose and solve real-world performance, thermal, and integration challenges.
- Contribute to technical documentation, test procedures, and design reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior or senior undergraduate, or a graduate student, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- A strong understanding of electrical or mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- A passion for hands-on hardware development and building functional, real-world systems.
- For mechanical focus: Experience with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is a plus.
- For electrical focus: Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as KiCad or Altium is a plus.
