About the role#
As a Public Sector Finance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting state and local governments, school districts, and public utilities. You will work alongside experienced Municipal Advisors on debt issuance and advisory engagements. This role focuses on how financial strategy, budgeting, and market conditions support community infrastructure needs. You will contribute to real client work while building technical and analytical skills.
What you'll do#
- Support debt issuance engagements from early-stage planning through transaction execution.
- Assist with evaluating financing alternatives, debt structures, and the affordability of capital plans.
- Prepare financial analyses, debt models, schedules, and client-ready presentations.
- Analyze financial data including existing debt, revenue trends, and expenditure patterns.
- Help manage transaction documentation, financing calendars, and due diligence materials.
- Participate in client meetings and financing working-group discussions.
- Build a working knowledge of the public finance industry and the lifecycle of municipal financing.
- Engage in orientation, training, and on-the-job learning through direct coaching.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in finance, accounting, economics, business, public administration, public policy, mathematics, or a related field.
- Enrollment in a master’s program such as an MPA, MPP, or MBA is a plus.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to identify key issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Openness to learning emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.
- Submission of a resume and unofficial transcript(s).
