About the role#
The Nursing Clinical Internship at Avera Granite Falls is a paid, on-site opportunity within the Medical Surgical Unit. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor to gain clinical experience while completing your nursing education. This role requires a commitment of 72 hours every two weeks, with shifts that rotate across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and communicating the nursing care plan to the healthcare team.
- Develop nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining patients, and documenting their physical and psychological status.
- Teach healthcare requirements to patients, families, and friends to help them understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
- Evaluate patient care by measuring health outcomes against standards and modifying care plans as needed.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by following infection-control policies and medication administration procedures.
- Document patient care services in records and manage patient care equipment and supplies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completion of all but the final one or two semesters of your nursing program.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Enrollment in a Minnesota college or university internship course (required to perform nursing functions).
- Ability to communicate effectively and perform essential physical job functions.
