About the role#
This internship provides an entry point for students to gain hands-on experience with cloud-based applications. You will work within the Customer and Revenue Systems portfolio to apply your engineering skills to real-world rail transportation projects. This is a paid, full-time position available for the Fall 2026 or Winter 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Learn about existing software infrastructure and the software development lifecycle.
- Provide technical and administrative support to help complete assigned tasks on time and within budget.
- Support the review and build of new software features while following engineering standards.
- Conduct unit tests to improve system reliability and strengthen cyber security.
- Develop reports and suggest new ways to capture and analyze information more efficiently.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Management and Information Systems degree program.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies or sophomore status.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum is helpful.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Python, or AWS services is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC.
- Modality: This is an on-site role. You will be expected to work from the office 4 to 5 days per week.
- Compensation: The hourly rate ranges from $18.00 to $35.00, depending on your school year and program of study.
- Perks: Interns receive Amtrak rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year.
