About the role#
The Data & AI Insights Engineer Intern supports the Digital Technology organization at Amtrak. You will help the team turn data into insights that inform business decisions. You will work under the guidance of senior team members to learn how data is gathered, cleaned, and analyzed. This role provides exposure to foundational data engineering and analytics work.
What you'll do#
- Gather, clean, and organize data for analysis.
- Explore datasets to identify patterns, trends, or anomalies.
- Support the development and testing of simple models or analyses.
- Assist with engineering tasks like testing or documenting data processes.
- Maintain clear documentation for datasets, analyses, and assumptions.
- Participate in team meetings and project planning sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies or sophomore standing.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Basic familiarity with data analysis, including simple statistics or trend analysis.
- Basic understanding of programming or scripting concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills.

- Employment type: Full-time paid internship.
- Compensation: $18.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on school year and program of study.
