About the role#
The Library Communications & Administration Assistant supports the library communications team and the Office of the University Librarian. This role helps you build professional skills in a campus office setting. You will balance administrative duties with creative projects to help the library reach its audience.
What you'll do#
- Create content for library social media channels and find ways to engage with the campus community.
- Staff the administrative front desk, greet visitors, and answer phone calls.
- Help the Budget Coordinator manage accounting records and organize office supplies.
- Provide logistical support for library events, including planning, setup, and execution.
- Handle office tasks such as printing materials, filing, data entry, and copying.
- Join team meetings and take on special projects as needed.
What you'll need#
- You must be an enrolled student at American University.
- Availability to work 8 to 10 hours per week, with shifts of at least 2 to 3 hours.
- Experience in graphic design, video production, or public relations.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with the public and professional staff.
- Preferred: Experience in marketing, event planning, or social media strategy.
- Preferred: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects from start to finish.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at the main campus in Washington, DC.
- Work typically occurs between 9 AM and 5 PM.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
- Candidates selected for an interview will need to provide a portfolio of their design or media work.
