About the role#
The Center for Student Belonging (CSB) is looking for an undergraduate student to join the team as an Administrative Assistant. This role supports the Associate Director for Student Equity, Access, and Retention. You will help foster a welcoming campus environment through daily office support, program implementation, and event coordination.
What you'll do#
- Provide front desk coverage by greeting visitors and answering phones.
- Manage calendars and schedule appointments, meetings, and conference calls.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and general correspondence.
- Maintain office inventory and handle incoming or outgoing mail.
- Organize files and perform data entry tasks.
- Assist with event planning and office activities.
- Support the team with general administrative duties like scanning and photocopying.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at American University.
- Must have Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility.
- Prior experience as an administrative assistant or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with standard office equipment.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
- Understanding of AU platforms used for planning and promoting events.
- Interest in facilitating dialogues and programming that engage the campus community.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site at the American University main campus in Washington, DC.
- The role is part-time, requiring 10 hours per week.
- Compensation is $18.40 per hour.
