About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern, you will join a 10-week summer program designed to help you contribute to real-world technology projects. You will work within the Enterprise Technology Services organization, which supports the global infrastructure, data platforms, and engineering needs of American Express. This role focuses on designing, coding, and testing applications that keep our services secure and reliable for customers and colleagues.
What you'll do#
- Apply new technologies to solve business challenges.
- Contribute to an Agile scrum team by developing, testing, and improving software applications.
- Write clean, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and create unit tests with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Explore emerging AI-powered developer tools, automation, and machine learning concepts.
- Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and Senior Engineers to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver value.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, Go, or Kotlin.
- Foundational knowledge of computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
- Interest in building software across web, mobile, backend, cloud, API, or full-stack environments.
- Familiarity with modern development practices like version control, testing, and Agile methodologies.
