About the role#
The Investment Accounting Intern joins the Investment Accounting team to handle daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting tasks. You will gain hands-on experience with investment accounting methodologies across various asset classes, including fixed income securities, derivatives, and mortgage loans. This is a paid, in-person position based in Des Moines, Iowa.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation.
- Assist with accounting and reporting for residential, commercial, and agricultural loans, including reconciliations.
- Review private loans by calculating and booking allowances.
- Distribute quarterly STAT and GAAP investment disclosures.
- Provide reports and analysis for tax specialists and internal or external auditors.
- Contribute to automation and continuous improvement projects.
- Collaborate with other interns on a cross-functional strategic initiative.
- Perform ad hoc reporting and additional duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to collect data, define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Attention to numeric detail and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, customers, and outside third parties.
- Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.
