About the role#
AltaGas is looking for a Business Analytics & Planning Co-op Student to join the Operations Planning & Analysis team for an eight-month term starting in January 2027. You will support the management of the Midstream Maintenance Capital portfolio, G&A planning, and various reporting and analytics initiatives. This role involves working with operational, financial, and workforce data to help leadership make informed decisions. You will collaborate across Operations, Engineering, and Finance teams to improve reporting accuracy and provide business insights.
What you'll do#
- Support the administration and governance of the Midstream Maintenance Capital (MCAP) portfolio.
- Maintain capital portfolio databases and organize documentation for Authorizations for Expenditure (AFEs).
- Track portfolio performance metrics and assist with forecasting and investment planning.
- Maintain, validate, and enhance Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Create visualizations and summaries for leadership teams.
- Analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends and resolve data quality issues.
- Support G&A planning, governance processes, and labour allocation analysis.
- Perform variance and trend analysis while maintaining planning templates.
- Assist in the development of demand planning processes.
- Document business processes and workflows using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
- Contribute to projects that connect operational drivers with financial outcomes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary degree program in Business, Economics, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience working with large datasets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and SUMIFS.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Curiosity regarding how operational and financial decisions are made.
- Experience with Power BI, JD Edwards, or Workday is an asset.
- Interest in business planning, capital investment governance, or energy infrastructure.
