About the role#
As a Firmware Engineer intern, you will contribute to the firmware and embedded software team at Allegion. You will gain hands-on experience developing features for access control and automatic door systems. You will work alongside hardware, test, and manufacturing teams to support product validation and development.
What you'll do#
- Develop, debug, and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products.
- Participate in requirements definition and design discussions for new features and updates.
- Implement and maintain device drivers, communication stacks, and peripheral interfaces.
- Work with real-time operating systems and bare-metal architectures.
- Support hardware bring-up using debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Design tools to measure and analyze product performance.
- Participate in code reviews, version control workflows, and continuous integration processes.
- Document firmware designs, test procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Use functional block diagrams, flow diagrams, and state diagrams to support development.
- Deepen your understanding of basic electronics and electrical tools.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of the C programming language.
- Experience with embedded microprocessors and associated development tools.
- Basic understanding of electronics, including low voltage wiring.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative.
- Ability to work effectively in both team and individual settings.
- A hands-on approach and the ability to work in an engineering laboratory environment.
- Resilience, adaptability, and strong time management skills.

- Compensation: $25 to $26 per hour.
