    About the role#

    As a Firmware Engineer intern at Allegion, you will contribute to the firmware and embedded software competency. You will gain hands-on experience defining and implementing features for access control and automatic door systems. You will work on real projects, collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams, and support product validation throughout the summer.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop, debug, and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products.
    • Participate in requirements definition and design discussions for new features and product updates.
    • Implement and maintain device drivers, communication stacks (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, BLE), and peripheral interfacing.
    • Work with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal architectures.
    • Support hardware bring-up and verification using tools like debuggers (JTAG/SWD), logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
    • Design tools to measure and analyze product performance.
    • Participate in code reviews, version control workflows, and continuous integration processes.
    • Document firmware designs, test procedures, and standard operating procedures.
    • Utilize functional block diagrams, flow diagrams, and state-diagrams.
    • Deepen your understanding of basic electronics and electrical tools.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technology disciplines.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative.
    • Basic electronics understanding, including low voltage wiring.
    • Passion for hands-on work in an engineering laboratory environment.
    • Ability to work effectively in both team and individual settings.
    • Resiliency and the ability to adapt quickly.
    • Effective listening, time management, and creative problem-solving techniques.
    • A desire to learn, grow, and develop.
    • Preferred: Knowledge of the C programming language.
    • Preferred: Experience with embedded microprocessors and their associated IDE and tools.

    • Location: Farmington, Connecticut.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time internship.
    • Compensation: $25-$26 per hour.
