About the role#
AKRF is seeking an environmental scientist or geologist intern to join our Site Assessment and Remediation practice for the summer of 2027. This position is based in our New York City office and offers the opportunity to work on projects ranging from individual building sites to large-scale infrastructure and redevelopment efforts.
What you'll do#
- Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
- Conduct Phase II, subsurface, and remedial investigations. This includes logging borings and collecting soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and indoor air samples.
- Oversee remediation activities and community air monitoring for brownfield redevelopment projects.
- Manage subcontractors, including drillers, excavation crews, and remedial contractors.
- Interpret data and prepare technical reports, such as work plans and remedial investigation reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program in environmental science, environmental engineering, geology, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail.
- Initiative to take on new projects and tackle challenges.
- Dependability and a willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks.

- Compensation: $21 to $29 per hour, depending on experience.
