About the role#
As a Technical Game Design Intern, you will join the gameplay engineering team at Treyarch. You will perform hands-on work alongside full-time engineers, receiving mentorship and oversight throughout the summer. This role is designed for students who want to build features for games played by millions of people.
What you'll do#
- Prototype, implement, and refine gameplay systems, features, and mechanics.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues within existing game code.
- Collaborate with designers, artists, and other disciplines to bring gameplay ideas to life.
- Support technical problem-solving and contribute to balancing and tuning gameplay experiences based on playtest feedback.
- Document your work and technical processes to support effective team collaboration.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program with a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Proficiency in C++ as a primary language, with additional experience in C#, Lua, Python, or visual scripting.
- Strong understanding of linear algebra, spatial reasoning, and low-level programming concepts, such as memory management and bitfields.
- Experience with Visual Studio and game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
- A design portfolio demonstrating mechanics scripting, logic setups, or playable level flow.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
