About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in vocational services for adults and young adults with mental health, learning, or substance use disorders. You will work directly with individuals to help them prepare for employment, secure job placements, and develop career plans. This is an unpaid, full-time, on-site role based in Mount Vernon, New York.
What you'll do#
- Conduct intakes for individuals referred to the Vocational Services program.
- Monitor vocational evaluations and score career interest, math, and reading tests.
- Help clients prepare for the workforce by reviewing interviewing and presentation skills.
- Facilitate vocational groups and assist with job coaching.
- Support clients with resume writing, job searches, and work experience internships.
- Provide counseling on benefits and workplace accommodations.
- Perform clerical tasks, including reviewing and assembling client charts.
- Assist with vocational assessments and long-term career planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program related to Human Services.
- You must be able to receive academic credit hours for this internship.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both clients and staff.
- Previous experience in the human services field is preferred.

- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm (flexible within these hours).
- Term: Rolling.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
