About the role#
This internship provides experience in an outpatient clinic setting within Westchester County. You will work with clients dealing with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders. You will follow the NYS OASAS Scope of Practice Rules and engage with the 12 Core Functions of an Addiction Counselor.
What you'll do#
- Perform substance use assessments and screen for signs and symptoms of disorders.
- Collaborate with case managers to create service plans with long and short-term goals.
- Provide counseling and emotional support to clients.
- Facilitate weekly groups covering harm reduction and relapse prevention.
- Manage crisis intervention, advocacy, referrals, and case planning.
- Participate in weekly supervision, team meetings, and case reviews.
- Monitor and evaluate client progress.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a CASAC(T) student.
- Enrollment in an education or training program that grants credit hours for this internship.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competency.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to sit or stand at a computer for moderate periods and lift over 15 pounds occasionally.
Location & details#
- Locations: New Rochelle, NY and Mount Vernon, NY.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, with shifts available between 6:00am to 1:45pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
