About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience within the Wipfli CyberTech division, focusing on Security Operations Center (SOC) services. You will work alongside cybersecurity professionals to monitor security activity, investigate alerts, and support incident response. The role is designed to build practical knowledge of SOC processes and professional client service.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and review security alerts from SIEM, EDR, and other security platforms.
- Assist with alert triage by validating activity, documenting findings, and escalating potential incidents.
- Support investigations into phishing, malware, suspicious account activity, and network threats.
- Analyze security logs and telemetry from endpoints, identity systems, cloud environments, and business applications.
- Contribute to incident response activities, including evidence collection and case documentation.
- Assist with phishing analysis by reviewing message indicators, links, and attachments.
- Support vulnerability and threat management through research of indicators of compromise and emerging threats.
- Maintain SOC documentation such as playbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge articles.
- Shadow cybersecurity professionals during client engagements and collaborate with peer advisors and performance coaches.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- A general understanding of networking concepts, common protocols, operating systems, and foundational cybersecurity principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify patterns and document conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- A detail-oriented approach and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid. This role requires working 2-3 days a week in a Wipfli office or at client sites.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with an estimated base pay of $19.00 per hour.
