About the role#
Winland Foods is seeking a Product Development Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This role offers the opportunity to work within our Research, Development, and Innovation team, gaining hands-on experience in food manufacturing and product commercialization. You will work both independently and collaboratively on projects that support our diverse portfolio of retail and private-label food products.
What you'll do#
- Lead and contribute to new product development, including concept and prototype creation.
- Execute cost savings initiatives, such as process optimization, quality improvements, and material substitutions.
- Conduct ingredient exploration and testing to enhance product functionality and performance.
- Modify existing product attributes to address operational requirements or customer needs.
- Present project findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams and R&D leadership.
- Collaborate with team members to understand how individual roles impact the commercialization process.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Biology, Chemical Engineering, Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or Marketing.
- Ability to apply food science principles to meet specific project objectives.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Understanding of the function of ingredients within a food formula.
- Willingness to engage with industry experts and learn from experienced professionals.
Location & details#
- Location: Oak Brook, Illinois.
- Modality: Hybrid (In-office Tuesday through Thursday; remote work on Monday and Friday).
- Duration: Full-time, May to August 2027.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship at $27.50 per hour, plus a one-time lump sum payment for expenses.
