About the role#
The Nurse Extern program at Good Samaritan Hospital offers senior nursing students at least 48 hours of paid clinical experience during the winter break. You will work alongside an experienced RN preceptor to gain hands-on practice in a hospital setting. Opportunities are available in Med/Surg/Tele, ICU, and the Short Stay Unit. Please note that shifts vary based on your preceptor's schedule.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing care and personal care assistance, including help with bathing, dressing, and positioning.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs.
- Perform EKGs and Point-of-Care testing, such as blood glucose and hemoccult tests.
- Assist in preparing and transporting patients for tests and procedures.
- Maintain par levels of supplies and equipment on your assigned unit.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the nursing team.
- Respond to light calls and assist with unit errands.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program as a senior student graduating in Spring 2027.
- Completion of at least two clinical semesters.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Submission of an unofficial transcript and a letter of recommendation from a nursing professor.
