About the role#
Wellington Management is seeking two undergraduate co-ops for the Investment Risk team, with one position in each of the Multi-Asset and Hedge Fund Risk and Fixed Income Risk groups. You will support portfolio risk analysis, financial data analysis, and independent risk oversight. Working alongside risk strategists and analysts, you will produce and interpret portfolio risk analytics, investigate market developments, and contribute to recurring reporting. This role provides an opportunity to apply quantitative techniques to real-world portfolios while developing knowledge of financial markets, portfolio construction, and risk management.
What you'll do#
- Produce and review portfolio risk analytics.
- Apply statistical and quantitative techniques to financial data and portfolios.
- Identify material changes in portfolio exposures, risk measures, or market conditions.
- Support research on financial markets, portfolio behavior, risk models, and investment-management practices.
- Interpret model outputs and investigate unusual results.
- Build reports, dashboards, and analytical tools.
- Automate recurring reports and analytical workflows.
- Design, prototype, test, and document AI-enabled tools.
- Query, organize, analyze, and visualize portfolio and market data.
- Monitor data quality and investigate reporting issues.
- Participate in discussions with risk strategists and analysts.
- Communicate analytical findings through summaries and presentations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program.
- Coursework in linear algebra, probability and statistics, economics, finance, computer science, or data science.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in financial markets, portfolio management, and investment risk.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Positive, collegial attitude.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Programming experience, particularly in Python.
- Familiarity with Excel, Tableau, SQL, statistical analysis, data visualization, or generative AI tools.
- Only Northeastern University students are eligible for this program.
