About the role#
The WBD Academic Year Internship (WAY) program provides a six-month professional development opportunity for students interested in news and long-form storytelling. This internship runs from October 12, 2026, to April 16, 2027. Interns will work 16 to 24 hours per week in a hybrid capacity based in New York City. This program is designed to help students build professional skills and gain insight into the media industry, with potential placement across various CNN units.
What you'll do#
- Participate in all aspects of long-form media production, from initial story pitching to post-production.
- Shadow and assist editorial staff with daily operations.
- Conduct research, gather media including archival footage, and handle transcription and logging.
- Pitch new video concepts and series ideas on a monthly basis.
- Contribute to the production of live broadcasts, including assisting in the control room and coding elements into the rundown.
- Work with producers to craft research and questions for anchors.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university degree program.
- Status as a rising Senior undergraduate, graduating in Spring 2027.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong proficiency in video editing tools, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva.
- A demonstrated passion for news, documentary storytelling, and covering current events.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-volume environment.
- Relevant experience in news production, such as work with a college TV station or school newspaper.
