About the role#
CNN is offering multiple internship opportunities within the Newsgathering and Political units based in Washington, DC. These roles provide exposure to the editorial and production processes behind national political coverage. The program runs for 10 weeks, from October 12th to December 18th, 2026. Interns are expected to work 16 to 24 hours per week in a hybrid capacity.
What you'll do#
- Conduct background research on the 2026 elections and candidates to produce briefing materials.
- Monitor live political events and write accurate recap notes or stories.
- Assist with political research requests from reporters and shows.
- Perform editorial and production tasks, including fact-checking, tape logging, and assistance with interviews.
- Track developments in voting and election rules.
- Assist with location stakeouts and other political coverage as needed.
What you'll need#
- Must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Must be a rising Junior or rising Senior in academic good standing with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Preferred majors include Journalism, Political Science, Communications, Media Studies, or English.
- Strong interest in U.S. politics, political campaigns, and current events.
- Experience with journalistic newswriting for broadcast or digital platforms.
- Ability to function well under deadline pressures as a detail-oriented multi-tasker.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
