About the role#
This externship program offers a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to the field. This is an unpaid opportunity designed for students to build a foundation in emergency care and explore the role of a veterinary technician.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals.
- Pair with a credentialed technician for real-time mentoring.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice specific skills required by your school proficiency checklist.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency hospital.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Ability to start the program within six months of application.
- Current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment.
