About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency medicine. This program is designed for students to work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians to build a strong foundation in clinical skills and explore the realities of emergency care.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time mentoring.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist under professional guidance.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency care environment.
- Explore whether emergency medicine is the right career path for your future.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
