About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. This program is designed for students to work alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to emergency care, diagnostics, and patient triage. This is an unpaid externship opportunity.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time mentoring and on-the-floor training.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice clinical skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist under professional guidance.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency care setting.
- Explore whether a career in emergency veterinary medicine aligns with your professional goals.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours.
- Current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 25 kg.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment.
