About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship offers an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency medicine. Working alongside credentialed veterinary technicians, you will gain exposure to the realities of ER care, build a professional foundation, and determine if emergency veterinary medicine is the right career path for you.
What you'll do#
- Learn directly from experienced emergency veterinary professionals.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice specific clinical skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist under mentorship.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency hospital environment.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program.
- Ability to start the program within six months of application.
- Proof of current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Physical ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
