About the role#
This externship offers a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians to explore the reality of emergency care. This program is designed for students currently enrolled in veterinary technology or nursing programs who need to complete externship hours or skills.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals.
- Pair with a credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice skills required by your school proficiency checklist with guidance from your mentor.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of emergency care at VEG.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for long periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
