About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship provides a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain exposure to the realities of ER care, ask questions, and explore the field of emergency veterinary medicine.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time, on-the-floor mentoring.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice specific skills required by your school's proficiency checklist with professional guidance.
- Experience the teamwork and environment that defines emergency care at VEG.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Proof of current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment that may involve strong or unpleasant odors.
