About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. Students work directly with credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to the ER environment, build clinical skills, and explore career paths within emergency care.
What you'll do#
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time mentoring and on-the-floor instruction.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice specific skills required by your school's proficiency checklist.
- Engage in the daily operations of an emergency veterinary hospital.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Proof of a current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
