About the role#
This externship provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. You will work directly with our staff to gain exposure to the realities of ER care and determine if this field is the right fit for your career. This is an unpaid program designed for students currently in school.
What you'll do#
- Learn from experienced emergency veterinary professionals.
- Pair with a credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor training.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice skills required by your school's proficiency checklist with guidance from our team.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency hospital.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Proof of current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for long periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
