Veterinary Technician Student Externship

About the role#

The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. Students work alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to the daily operations of an emergency hospital. This program is designed to help students build a strong foundation in clinical skills while exploring a career in emergency care.

What you'll do#

• Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time, on-the-floor mentoring.
• Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
• Practice specific clinical skills required by your school's proficiency checklist.
• Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency veterinary environment.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program.
• Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
• Proof of current rabies vaccination or titer.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
• Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
