About the role#
The Legal and Advisory Services internship is an immersive program for law students to gain experience working alongside in-house corporate counsel. You will support USAA lines of business including banking, insurance, privacy, cyber, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. This role provides structured learning through work assignments, coaching, and exposure to various legal practice areas.
What you'll do#
- Provide legal counsel to assigned clients and support business objectives while mitigating regulatory, compliance, and litigation risk.
- Analyze legal issues of routine and moderate complexity.
- Engage with business clients to understand strategic and operational objectives.
- Collaborate with internal partners within business units and the Chief Legal Office.
- Lead routine to moderately sophisticated legal assignments and deliver solutions.
- Monitor and analyze changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards to advise leadership.
- Support senior attorneys by conducting legal research and addressing specific legal questions.
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Communicate legal advice effectively in both verbal and written forms.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Completion of the second year of law school by June 2, 2027.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited school.
- A graduation date no earlier than August 13, 2027.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Confirmed leadership experience in a work, school, or personal setting.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Interest in pursuing a legal career as in-house counsel.

- Location: San Antonio, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 2, 2027, through August 13, 2027).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $40 per hour plus an intern stipend.
- Note: This position does not offer visa sponsorship.
