About the role#
The Special Collections Instruction Student Assistant supports the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. You will work with the Instruction Librarian and Archivist to prepare for group visits and classes. This is a paid, part-time position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Create request slips for materials.
- Pull and reshelve items from closed stacks for class use.
- Assist staff in setting up materials for library visits.
- Advise on the selection of materials for classes.
- Handle fragile items with care.
What you'll need#
- Current UVA student status and eligibility for student employment.
- FWS eligibility is preferred.
- Ability to lift boxes and oversize items up to 40 pounds.
- Use of ladders to retrieve and store materials.
- Manual dexterity for handling rare, fragile items.
- Ability to work in an environment kept below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Excellent communication and computer skills.
- Availability to work between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
