About the role#
The Mendoza Research Team supports faculty research across Accountancy, Finance, IT Analytics & Operations, Marketing, and Management & Organization. As a Data Science Intern, you will work with full-time data scientists to support active research projects. This role focuses on building your technical toolkit through hands-on work with data pipelines and statistical modeling.
What you'll do#
- Clean, merge, and validate complex research datasets, such as financial records, survey results, and administrative data.
- Assist the team in building, testing, and refining statistical and machine learning models.
- Write clean, reproducible code using Python and R.
- Design intuitive charts, plots, and summary tables to communicate findings.
- Maintain clear documentation and organized code repositories using Git workflows.
- Participate in team check-ins and contribute to technical discussions with faculty researchers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in any major.
- Coursework in statistics, econometrics, computer science, or analytics.
- Working proficiency in Python or R.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow data handling and confidentiality protocols.
- Experience with Git, GitHub, SQL, or web scraping is helpful but not required.

- Location: On-site in Notre Dame, Indiana.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Hours: 15 to 20 hours per week, with schedules structured around your academic requirements.
- Compensation: $15 per hour.
