About the role#
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is hiring a student assistant to work under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer. This role is a learning opportunity within the Headquarters Office of Innovative Design and Delivery. You will support the alternative delivery program through data management, research, and administrative tasks.
What you'll do#
- Collect, enter, and verify project data.
- Maintain project tracking spreadsheets and databases.
- Research and compile information for office programs and projects.
- Develop reports, tables, charts, and presentation materials.
- Assist with data quality control, status tracking, and records management.
- Support the Senior Transportation Engineer with various analytical and administrative assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in Data Science or Statistics.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and adherence to minimum unit requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience with database software and the ability to perform accurate data entry.
- Familiarity with Tableau and Power BI.
- Ability to create clear, understandable charts and graphs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with an emphasis on attention to detail.
- Ability to apply deductive reasoning to identify patterns and draw conclusions.
- Willingness to learn new software and workflow processes.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Sacramento, California.
- The role operates in a hybrid environment.
- Work schedule is flexible, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Students generally work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
- Compensation ranges from $18.27 to $24.62 per hour.
- Applicants must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
