About the role#
UChicago Medicine is hiring a Student Radiology Technologist Assistant to join the Radiology Department. This role offers students currently enrolled in a radiology program the chance to gain hands-on experience while working alongside imaging professionals. You will support the Imaging Team by assisting with patient care, technical tasks, and unit operations. This is a 100% on-site position based at the Hyde Park campus.
What you'll do#
- Perform care protocols tailored to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
- Prepare patients for radiographic testing and monitor their reactions during procedures.
- Assist Registered Radiology Technologists (RRT) and physicians with exams and diagnostic procedures.
- Support image acquisition, film processing, and delivery into the PACS system.
- Manage computer functions within the Radiology Information System, including order entry and patient tracking.
- Coordinate patient transportation and maintain clinical facilities and equipment.
- Communicate patient needs to the RRT and collaborate with the team to improve care quality.
- Perform ancillary services such as darkroom tasks and film digitization.
- Initiate CPR during emergencies and assist the response team.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, research data collection, and educational programs.
- Help orient new employees and agency personnel.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Radiology Program.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPR training (BLS training is recommended).
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to perform tasks requiring continuous effort.
- Basic computer skills and experience with data input.
- Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience in radiology imaging, nursing assistance, phlebotomy, EKG, or respiratory therapy functions is beneficial.
Location & details#
- Location: Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, approximately 20 hours per week.
- Weekend requirement: Scheduled every other weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday).
- Role type: Part-time or Registry (0.1 or 0.5 FTE).
