About the role#
As an Actuarial Intern at The Mutual Group, you will gain hands-on experience by working with credentialed actuaries on pricing and reserving initiatives. This role is for students who want to apply classroom concepts to real-world insurance business challenges. You will contribute to projects that influence underwriting performance and gain exposure to multiple actuarial disciplines.
What you'll do#
- Support pricing, reserving, and other actuarial functions through data-driven analysis.
- Gather, validate, and organize data for models and business decision-making.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial reports, tools, and documentation.
- Analyze trends and communicate findings to team members and business partners.
- Collaborate with experienced actuaries on projects that impact business strategy.
- Assist with special initiatives to support the growth of the actuarial team.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
- Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to explain complex information clearly to a non-technical audience.
- Experience with SQL, Python, R, Power BI, or other analytical tools is a plus.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Status: Full-time and paid.
- Locations: Iowa and Illinois.
- Work Modality: Hybrid or on-site. Employees within 30 miles of the home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule.
