About the role#
This summer internship provides hands-on experience in real estate accounting and financial operations. You will work directly with our accounting teams to support financial reporting, improve process efficiency, and gain insight into the self-storage industry. The program includes mentorship, system training, and a final presentation to leadership regarding your contributions and recommendations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and payable reviews, and financial variance analysis.
- Support the month-end close process by preparing key financial reports.
- Use Excel and financial models to improve property accounting efficiency.
- Automate manual accounting tasks using Excel formulas, macros, or other tools.
- Document and streamline financial reporting workflows.
- Reconcile data between financial statements and operational reports.
- Review financial statements for errors, discrepancies, and missing entries.
- Work with operations teams to improve workflow efficiencies.
- Participate in meetings regarding financial strategy, budgeting, and compliance.
- Attend internal training sessions on Yardi and industry-specific accounting principles.
- Present your key learnings and process improvement recommendations at the end of the program.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior in a bachelor’s degree program for accounting.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Strong interest in a career in real estate accounting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Aptitude to learn new software such as Yardi.
- Strong attention to detail and an analytical mindset.
- Self-motivated, diligent work habits, and clear communication skills.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship located in Downers Grove, Illinois.
- The term is Summer 2027.
- This position is paid at a rate of $25 per hour.
