About the role#
This is a ten-week rotational summer internship program based in Downers Grove, Illinois. You will gain exposure to fund accounting, property accounting, and SEC reporting. This role is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist in maintaining REIT books, records, and property books using Yardi and accrual accounting.
- Support the preparation of monthly closes for consolidated REIT books and property accounting workbooks.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports, variance analyses, and management reports.
- Assist with external audit functions and quarterly reviews.
- Perform annual common area maintenance and real estate tax reconciliations.
- Help collect and compile data for financial statements, footnotes, and SEC filings including Forms 8-K, 10-K, and 10-Q.
- Manage SEC filing documents in Active Disclosure and assist with XBRL reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior pursuing a bachelor degree in accounting.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Strong interest in a career in real estate accounting.
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Aptitude or desire to learn software such as Yardi and Active Disclosure.
- Excellent communication skills, diligence, and a self-motivated mindset.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
