About the role#
The Real Estate Accounting Internship is a ten-week rotational program based in Downers Grove, Illinois. You will gain exposure to fund accounting, property accounting, and SEC reporting. This role provides hands-on experience with financial reporting, analysis, and cash flow tasks within the commercial real estate industry.
What you'll do#
- Maintain REIT books and records in Yardi.
- Assist with the monthly close of consolidated REIT books and property books using accrual accounting.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports, variance analyses, and management reports.
- Support the external audit function during quarterly reviews.
- Perform annual common area maintenance and real estate tax reconciliations.
- Collect and compile information for SEC filings including Forms 8-K, 10-K, and 10-Q.
- Manage documents within Active Disclosure and assist with XBRL review.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a junior pursuing a bachelor degree in accounting.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week on-site.
- Strong interest in a career in real estate accounting.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Aptitude to learn Yardi and Active Disclosure software.
- Analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, diligent, and clear communication skills.
