About the role#
The Utah Senate is hiring a Senate Policy Intern for the 2027 General Session. This is a full-time, nonpartisan position where you will support the Senate’s Senior Policy Advisor on substantive policy issues. You will work in an environment that requires discretion, accuracy, and professional judgment. This is an at-will position and does not include benefits.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing and tracking major policy initiatives during the 2027 General Session.
- Review policy proposals and draft legislation.
- Write summaries of proposed legislation.
- Track key legislation through the legislative process.
- Prepare written reports on the outcomes of key legislation.
- Complete research projects related to pending legislation.
- Facilitate administrative processes for prioritizing legislation, including work for the Senate Rules Committee.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program or completion of a bachelor’s degree. Enrollment in a graduate program is a plus.
- Strong research, analytical, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex information with clarity and well-reasoned analysis.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and respond effectively to feedback.
- Prior experience in government, economics, political science, or law is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 4 to March 10).
- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time position requiring 40 to 50 hours per week.
- Pay: $21.00 per hour.
- Dress code: Business professional attire is required.
