About the role#
Stantec is hiring a Renewable Energy Civil Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Chicago, Illinois. You will work within our Community Development Group, gaining exposure to projects such as urban design, roadway planning, infrastructure design, and storm water management.
What you'll do#
- Complete the civil component of various projects using your technical and communication skills.
- Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with engineering principles and project documents.
- Assist with CAD drafting, design, and the preparation of construction documents.
- Help prepare plans, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.
- Procure permits and approvals from relevant agencies.
- Communicate with engineering staff, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings and complete detailed reports as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited bachelor’s degree program in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, environmental engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of basic AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and take direction.
- A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and access to a vehicle.
- Coursework or exposure to areas such as infrastructure, surveying, hydrology, or construction management is preferred.
