About the role#
Stantec is seeking Civil Engineering interns for the Summer 2027 term. This role is based within our Community Development Group and offers hands-on experience with projects such as urban design, roadways, park and recreation design, traffic engineering, and infrastructure management. Interns work alongside experienced practitioners to solve real-world problems for clients and communities. Most of your time will be spent working outside on construction sites.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the civil component of various projects.
- Perform construction observation to ensure compliance with project documents.
- Handle construction administration, including documenting activities, measuring materials, and coordinating materials testing.
- Review shop drawings and provide general project oversight.
- Complete detailed reports and assist with construction surveying or staking.
- Communicate with engineering staff, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with CAD drafting, design, and plan preparation if office time is available.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, construction management, GIS/Survey, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Understanding of basic AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and general surveying.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently.
- Physical ability to work in outdoor conditions and navigate rugged terrain.
- A valid driver's license, a good driving record, and reliable transportation.
- A genuine interest in serving municipalities with their infrastructure needs.
