About the role#
Specter Aerospace is seeking a Computational Design Engineer Co-Op for a 4-6 month cycle to support the design and analysis of high-speed airbreathing testbed vehicles. You will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists on projects critical to the mission, receiving the same resources and project ownership as full-time staff.
What you'll do#
- Create reusable computational geometry models to transition hypersonic vehicles from requirements to design.
- Support the development of design and analysis tools for high-speed systems.
- Collaborate with mechanical, design, aerodynamics, propulsion, and software engineers to define inputs and outputs.
- Build parametric geometry models that integrate with analysis tools.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience using computational design software and familiarity with implicit modeling concepts such as signed distance functions, level sets, Boolean operations, inversions, and differential geometry.
- Previous CAD or design experience gained in a technical shop, lab, or student organization.
- Familiarity with mechanical engineering and physics principles including statics, materials, and thermo/fluids.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
