About the role#
This internship supports the Grid of the Future domain within the Southwire R&D Spark Innovation team. You will research advanced grid technologies and contribute to development initiatives. The role focuses on identifying disruptive opportunities in grid resiliency, electrification, and enhancing technologies. You will be assigned a project at the start of the summer and present your findings at a project expo at the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Research advanced grid technologies including SMRs, Hydrogen, HVDC Systems, DC Microgrids, and Grid Electrification.
- Identify and map strategic opportunities for the company in core and adjacent markets.
- Assist in developing go-to-market strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to shape technology adoption pathways.
- Facilitate roundtable discussions and stakeholder interviews.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other project deliverables.
- Update and create engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
- Manage stakeholder communication for your assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Power Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work site.
