About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger is hiring a Technical Intern for a Winter 2027 position in our Waltham, Massachusetts office. This is a full-time, paid opportunity for students to work alongside professional engineers on real-world projects. You will gain hands-on experience in a consulting environment while applying your academic knowledge to complex engineering challenges.
What you'll do#
- Assist with land development, sustainable development, and urban recharge projects.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis using software and hand calculations.
- Organize field data and conduct research to support repair design.
- Prepare construction documents, technical specifications, and written reports.
- Collaborate with our Geotechnical, Marine, Structural, and Building Technology groups.
- Work on tasks such as utility and drainage investigation, flood-exposure evaluation, and pavement design.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering.
- A record of high academic achievement.
- A strong interest in gaining hands-on experience in a consulting engineering setting.
- Clear communication abilities.

- Location: Waltham, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: Undergraduate students earn $29.25 to $32.50 per hour, graduate students earn $33.75 to $34.75 per hour, and PhD students earn $36.75 per hour. This role includes a $1,000 sign-on bonus. Full-time temporary employees are eligible for medical insurance, paid holidays, and sick leave.
