About the role#
This internship supports the Maintenance of Way Engineering department at New York City Transit. You will assist in protecting subway structures through inspections, maintenance, and capital project support. This role involves working on the infrastructure that keeps train service running across 240 route miles of track.
What you'll do#
- Inspect structural components alongside senior engineers to ensure safety.
- Design steel columns, beams, concrete slabs, and walls.
- Create sketches in MicroStation for temporary shoring and permanent repairs.
- Update the EAM defect database based on field inspection reports.
- Review designs and drawings for capital contracts.
- Conduct punch-list inspections to confirm repairs meet agency standards.
- Prepare project profiles and cost estimates for small projects.
What you'll need#
- Matriculation in a Civil Engineering undergraduate program with at least a 2.5 GPA or a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively under pressure.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Authorization to work in the United States.

- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: This is a full-time, on-site position. Regular in-person attendance is required.
- Compensation: Undergraduate interns earn $19.00 per hour, and graduate interns earn $21.00 per hour.
