About the role#
The Junior Systems Administrator Co-Op supports the administration and operation of core infrastructure platforms. Working alongside Infrastructure Engineers, this role gains hands-on experience with cloud services, servers, virtualization, monitoring, storage, backup, and disaster recovery. You will assist with operational activities, documentation, automation, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Administer and monitor Microsoft Azure and on-premises infrastructure services.
- Support server maintenance, patch validation, system monitoring, and operational checks.
- Maintain system inventories, configuration records, architectural diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Participate in backup verification, recovery testing, and disaster recovery activities.
- Investigate infrastructure alerts and assist with incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Support infrastructure projects, migrations, upgrades, and service improvement initiatives.
- Develop PowerShell scripts and automation solutions to improve efficiency.
- Work with vendors and internal teams during maintenance activities and project implementations.
- Follow change management, security, and operational procedures.
What you'll need#
- In-progress degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Windows Server administration, and networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and virtualization concepts.
- Understanding of backup and recovery processes.
- Preferred: Completed coursework in Cloud Computing, Networking, Windows Server Administration, and Virtualization Technologies.
- Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management, Conditional Access, Identity Governance, lifecycle workflows, access packages, and hybrid identity synchronization.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Microsoft Graph, Kusto Query Language, service management processes, audit controls, and security frameworks.
- Preferred: Certifications such as Microsoft AZ-900, VMware Certified Professional, CompTIA Server+, or ITIL Foundation.

- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
- Compensation: $22 to $30 per hour based on experience.
